Over the centuries, vampires and werewolves have never really gotten along. There are lots of reasons why you’d probably rather have a werewolf for a friend. Werewolves are generally decent sorts who are not all that dangerous to be around, except at the full moon. If you’re not convinced, here are the top ten reasons why werewolves are better than vampires:
1. Werewolves get better mythology. Vampires are generally believed to originate with Vlad the Impaler, a medieval ruler of Transylvania who is rumored to have drunk the blood of his enemies. Werewolves, on the other hand, have a number of origin stories, most of them connected with protecting nature and maintaining a balance.
2. Werewolves usually get along with other werewolves, while vampires are often either solitary or fighting each other in an attempt to dominate a city.
3. Vampires are icky, predatory blood-drinkers. Your average werewolf doesn’t feed on humans by choice, and when they do it’s an accident. And most of them feel bad about it afterward.
4. Werewolves are people part of the time. Vampires are always vampires, and therefore, thinking of you as a tasty snack.
5. Vampires feed on humans. Werewolves feel it is one of their missions to kill vampires. Werewolves are acting in your best interests.
6. The only thing werewolves are afraid of is silver. Vampires fear wooden stakes, garlic, holy water, holy symbols, daylight…the list goes on and on.
7. Speaking of daylight, werewolves can go on picnics and to ball games and to the beach. Take a vampire outdoors during the day and you get a very crispy vampire.
8. While we’re on the subject of outdoors, werewolves are rugged, outdoorsy types. No vampire owns hiking boots or knows how to toast a marshmallow.
9. Werewolves turn into wolves. Vampires turn into bats. Wolves are awesome. Bats have high rates of rabies infection.
10. And finally, werewolves are warm-blooded, while vampires are more like reptiles. Who would you rather cuddle with on a cold winter’s night, a warm, furry werewolf or a cold, dusty vampire?
